Æthelstan: A Great Anglo-Saxon King - An evening lecture with Tim Porter Thursday 28th February at 7pm This evening lecture provides a case study of a great Anglo-Saxon ruler, who died at Gloucester, was buried at Malmesbury and used Cirencester as his collection point for tributes. He united the English nation and won the greatest battle of the age. But how much do we really know about him? So much seems to be based on legend, supposition and unreliable sources. This lecture by Tim Porter aims to unpick the threads and come a little closer to the real Æthelstan. Tim Porter is an itinerant lecturer, with two subject areas: music and the middle ages. Tim is currently a guest lecturer at museums including the Ashmolean in Oxford, and works as a tour guide for specialist history groups. Tim is a member of the NADFAS register, and speaks to history societies, music clubs, and organisations of many other types. Cost: £5.65 or £5 to season ticket holders. All lectures are from 7- 8.30pm (this includes time for questions). Finish times may vary.
