The Rise of Civilization in Ancient Egypt with Chris Ellis Thursday 24th April, 7-8.30pm The lecture will look at the shift from mythological or ancient histories of ancient Egypt to the results of increasingly archaeological investigations from the 19th century onwards, through excavations into the rise of its ancient civilization. The story includes some fascinating characters as well as amazing monuments, finds, and cultural developments which have helped to illuminate this significant period of ancient Egypt’s foundation called the Predynastic (c. 5500 – 3000BC). A period that witnesses developments such as writing, calendars, divine kingship, pyramids, mummification and irrigation.
