Help Save Our Magnificent Meadows

Thursday 25/09/14 10:00

Sherborne Estate

A short talk introducing you to the Save Our Magnificent Meadows project at the Cotswolds Conservation Board's office base in Northleach, followed by scrub bashing in an area of the National Trust's Sherborne Estate not normally open to the public. We hope to be able to burn any scrub that is cut on a bonfire.

The day begins at 10am with a short talk at The Old Prison introducing you to the 'Save Our Magnificent Meadows' project. We will then drive to the National Trust's Sherborne estate. Sherborne is a beautiful working estate supporting an abundance of wildlife, and the National Trust have kindly granted us access to part of the estate not normally accessible to the public. Our aim is to restore an area of former wildflower grassland, which is now overgrown with encroaching scrub, by removing some scrub and providing the wildflowers with the light they need to thrive. We hope to be able to burn any cut scrub on a bonfire. Tea, coffee and fruit squash will be provided, along with all necessary tools and equipment however please bring your own packed lunch and make sure you wear sturdy boots and are dressed appropriately for the weather (i.e. sunhat, waterproofs etc). Please also be aware that as we will be working in the centre of the estate, there will be no toilets available for most of the day. We are aiming to finish at around 3:30pm. Registration is essential for this event - please contact Katherine Holmes at the Cotwolds Conservation Board. Email: or call 01451 862038.
