Cotswold Grassland Week: Nature Discovery Day on Bannerdown Common

Saturday 06/06/15 11:00 - 15:00

Bannerdown Common

A celebration of the nature and wildlife at Bannerdown Common!

Come and join us on the beautiful Bannerdown Common for a FREE, fun, family-friendly and educational day out!

The Save Our Magnificent Meadows team from the Cotswolds Conservation Board, in collaboration with organisations including the Avon Wildlife Trust, Natural England, Bath Natural History Society, the Cotswolds Voluntary Wardens and the Batheaston Freeholders has arranged a Nature Discovery Day on Bannerdown Common.

Thanks to the dedicated efforts of local volunteers who work hard to manage and restore the site, and the reintroduction of grazing, Bannerdown Common supports a wide range of wildflowers, butterflies, birds and other creatures, and is a delight to visit in Spring and Summer.

The day will be launched by George McGavin - an entomologist, explorer and TV presenter, and there will be:

  • Guided mini-beast safaris
  • Nature walks
  • A resident storyteller
  • Opportunities to unleash your creative side; including the chance to make your own bee hotel to take home; and of course
  • The opportunity to explore and learn about the nature and biodiversity of the Common!

Bannerdown Common is situated 3 miles north-east of the fabulous city of Bath and one mile north-east of Batheaston on the road to Colerne. There will be a DROP-OFF point at the common and plenty of FREE car parking a short walk away. The Bath / Colerne bus goes past the common but there is not an official bus stop.

There will be limited toilet facilities on the day, however we are unable to provide refreshments, so if you plan to stay the whole day please bring your own picnic (please be prepared to take your rubbish away with you!). Well behaved dogs are also welcome!
