All of the following events take place at Cotswold Discovery Centre at the Old Prison, Fosseway, Northleach, Gloucestershire GL54 3JH

Ample free parking is available. Disabled parking bays are located directly outside the entrance of the centre. Pulham's bus services 855,801 and Swanbrook service 853 serve the Centre.  The nearest mainline railway stations are Moreton-in-Marsh, Kemble (serving Cirencester) and Cheltenham.

Outdoor Theatre Alice in Wonderland - Friday 25 August, 2.30pm (3pm start)  Adults £8, Concession £6

Follow IKP down the rabbit-hole this Summer and join Alice as she meets the weird and wacky residents of Wonderland. Adapted from the novel by Lewis Carroll, this new adaptation for all the family promises to entertain young and old alike. Outdoor Theatre Three Men in a Boat - Friday 25 August, 6pm (6.30pm start)

Come along on the adventure of a lifetime – well, of the Summer at least – and sail on down the River Thames with three men in a boat (to say nothing of the dog). Join Jerome, Harris, George and Montmorency from Kingston-upon-Thames to Oxford as they encounter a variety of people, places and peculiar maladies and discuss various important topics such as ‘why very few people suffer from sea-sickness on land’ and ‘the advantages of cheese as a travelling companion’.

September 2017 Events

Thatching Taster Day - Saturday 9 September 10am to 5pm
£99 per person (including tea, coffee and all materials)

This practical course is designed as a taster to introduce you to the skill of wheat straw thatching. During the course you can expect to learn about: a brief history of thatching, the materials used, splitting hazel to make fixings, methods of fixing a thatch coat onto a traditional wooden roof and trimming eves and gables using traditional tools .This process of wheat straw thatching will be demonstrated to show how it is done and then participants will be able to have a go themselves. No prior experience required. This course is ideal for those who have little or no experience of wheat straw thatching and want to learn more!

All tools and materials will be provided. All you need to bring is appropriate clothing, footwear, packed lunch and a bucket full of enthusiasm.

Drawing Workshop - Friday 15 September 10am to 4pm

Carole Bury will be presenting a one day drawing course at the Centre suitable for beginners and more confident students who would like to explore charcoals and pencils, with a Cotswold Landscape theme.

Carole explores drawing with a 'don't be fearful' approach, hoping that she can inspire you to go away and try your own ideas.
Different aspects of mark making will be investigated; creating descriptive drawings that can express changing weather and the surrounding landscape.

Lechlade Craft Barn - Mosaic Course - Tuesday 19 September 10am to 4pm 
£55 per person (including lunch)

Make a decorative mosaic using traditional style mosaic tiles or choose from a vast array of vintage china, glass, jewellery and quirky items.

Make a mirror, house number or stylish decorative design. You will learn how to prepare your board, cut tiles and china, lay out your design and finish off your mosaic with a matching grout.

Willow Sculpture Course  - Saturday 30 September 10am to 4pm

Local expert Allison Oldershaw will teach you how to weave willow to make decorative items. This course will focus on making a willow ball, which can be used as the basis for making hens, or hung in the garden as a feature.

Learn to Crochet – We will get you hooked!

Crochet is one of our most popular workshops – it is versatile, therapeutic, creative and portable. It is a great way to use new and leftover yarns to create throws, garments and accessories. If you have a love of yarn and colour then come and learn the basics of crochet.

This workshop is perfect for the complete beginner as well as for those wanting a refresher. We will show you the best way to hold the yarn and hook, the basic crochet stitches, how to follow a pattern and will have you creating the classic crochet building black in no time at all – a Granny Square.

Lechlade Craft Barn - Hand Stitched Traditional Lampshades Course - Tuesday 07 September 10am to 4pm 
£55 per person (including lunch)

Learn to create a traditional scalloped edge lampshade, from binding the frame to making the shade and adding trimmings.

Some machine and hand sewing are required.

We supply a 12" scalloped edge empire lampshade frame. You will need to bring 1 metre of fabric, nothing too heavy or textured, flimsy or delicate. The fabric will be used on the bias, so please bear that in mind if you have a pattern. We have trimmings, but feel free to bring matching braid. Please bring pins, sewing scissors, a needle and matching thread.
